Hi, I’m Jay Cohen from Blass Law.
And we’re here to talk about penalties during a disaster or emergency.
During this Coronavirus emergency, the governor has declared Texas in a state of emergency which changes the penalty ranges for these offenses, assault, arson, robbery, burglary, burglary of a motor vehicle, criminal trespass, and theft.
The most important thing to know is that these offenses that were ordinarily a Class A Misdemeanor are now Felonies.
That’s one level increase makes it a felony.
Now, if it’s a Class B misdemeanor it’s just moved up to a Class A but going from a misdemeanor to a felony is a big deal.
Also going from a state jail felony to a third degree felony, it’s a pretty big deal too.
So be good out there. Don’t talk to the police.
Use your hand sanitizer and call Blass Law. We’re here for you.
We’ve got all the technology we need to communicate with you and help you through this.
